Bridge of Peace

A glass-and-steel crossing that places the historic city and contemporary Tbilisi in the same frame.

A meeting of two cityscapes

The Bridge of Peace crosses the Mtkvari River in the historic part of Tbilisi, linking the area around Erekle II Street with Rike Park. Completed in 2010, it introduced a distinctly contemporary silhouette into a setting of older streets and hillside landmarks. Its curved canopy, glass panels and slender structural lines make it easy to recognise, even when you first encounter it from another river crossing.

For a guest staying at New Tamarisi, the bridge is a useful introduction to the geography of the centre. Stand back before crossing and notice how the river separates, but also connects, the different neighbourhoods. Rather than treating the bridge only as a photographic stop, use it to understand where you would like to wander next.

What to look for

The canopy changes character as you move beneath it. Look along the repeating framework for a strong perspective, then turn towards the banks for a wider view of the city. Glass, metal, water and older buildings create several different subjects within a short visit. The bridge is also illuminated after dark, giving you a reason to return at another time rather than trying to see everything in one pass.

For photographs, try both an overall view from the bank and a closer composition from the walkway. A phone's wide-angle setting can exaggerate the structure, while a more normal view helps keep the surrounding architecture in proportion. Pause clear of the main pedestrian flow and give other visitors room to pass.

A relaxed route from Tamarisi

Our suggested outing is to combine the bridge with time in Rike Park and a walk through the streets on the opposite bank. Choose one direction for your first exploration, leaving room for a café stop rather than building an overfilled itinerary. If you are travelling with children or anyone who prefers shorter walks, make the bridge the main destination and decide on further stops once you are there.

The hotel's supplied listing gives an approximate distance of 850 metres. This is a location estimate, not a measured door-to-door walking route. River access, crossings and the route you choose affect the actual journey. Ask reception which approach makes most sense for your plans that day.

Make the visit your own

A morning visit and an evening visit can feel quite different. Choose daylight if your priority is reading the surrounding landscape; consider an evening stroll if you would enjoy the lighting and a slower end to dinner. Check the weather before leaving, since an exposed river crossing can feel different from the sheltered streets around the hotel.

Allow yourself time to look away from the most familiar view. The movements of people, reflections beneath the bridge and contrasts between the two banks often become the details you remember. Comfortable walking shoes and a little flexibility are more useful here than a complicated schedule.

For a guided introduction that includes the bridge, call New Tamarisi Hotel. Tell us your preferred date, group size and interests, and we can discuss available tour arrangements and prices. Any tour is confirmed separately; your enquiry does not itself make a booking.
