A garden with a social history

Mushtaidi Garden, also written Mushthaid, traces its beginnings to the 1830s. Georgia's official tourism guide connects its creation with Mir Feteagha Seyyed Tabriz, a religious figure who settled in Tbilisi. By the middle of the nineteenth century, the garden had become a setting for public walks, exhibitions and performances.

The garden is also known for its children's railway, opened in 1935. This combination of planting, recreation and shared memories gives it a character different from a formal monument or a botanical collection. A visit is an opportunity to see how a green space can become part of the social life of a city across generations.

Enjoying the everyday atmosphere

Rather than arriving with a checklist of attractions, give yourself time to observe how the garden is used. Families, walkers and people taking a break are part of the setting. A relaxed visit may be as simple as following a path, pausing in a shaded area and deciding which part of the space you would like to explore next.

If the railway or other leisure activities are important to your plans, check their current operation before making the journey. Seasonal schedules and maintenance can affect what is available. It is better to treat a particular ride as a possible addition to the visit than to promise it to children before the arrangements have been confirmed.

A family outing at your own pace

For families staying at New Tamarisi, we suggest keeping the day's schedule light enough to enjoy the garden without rushing. Choose a manageable period outdoors and allow for refreshments, rest and the return journey. A quieter interval can balance a holiday that includes churches, museums or longer city walks.

Visitors without children can also appreciate the garden's history and the way it reflects local leisure. Consider the difference between this setting and the more central 9th of April Park. The comparison is useful because it shows that Tbilisi's gardens are not interchangeable: each has its own position in the city and its own associations.

Planning from the hotel

The approximate distance supplied in the hotel information is 3.4 kilometres. It is a general estimate rather than a measured route from the entrance of the hotel to the garden gate. Ask reception whether walking, transport or a combination would be the most comfortable option for your group.

Take the weather into account, especially if you are travelling with younger children or anyone who tires easily. Comfortable shoes, water and enough flexibility to shorten the outing are sensible preparations. Photograph the surroundings considerately, avoiding close images of other families without permission.

If you would like to include Mushtaidi Garden in a broader excursion, call New Tamarisi Hotel. We can discuss your interests, the age range of your group and the amount of time you would like to spend outdoors. Ask us about current activity arrangements and any tour costs. We will help you consider the available options, with the final route and booking agreed separately.
