A small lake above the city

Turtle Lake, or Kus Tba, is a natural reservoir on the slopes of Mtatsminda. Georgia's official tourism guide describes it as a place for walking, recreation and spending time outdoors. Its hillside position and surrounding vegetation create a different setting from the river corridor below.

The lake belongs to a wider recreational area associated with Vake Park and the open-air ethnographic museum. That context gives you several possible ways to shape a day, but it does not mean that every place is equally close or connected by an easy path. Decide whether the lake itself is your destination or one part of a larger outing.

Enjoying the water and surrounding paths

Our suggestion is to begin with a relaxed look at the shoreline before deciding how far to walk. Water changes the feel of a place: reflections, movement and the relationship between the lake and surrounding slopes provide plenty to notice without a complicated itinerary.

If you are interested in seasonal leisure activities, ask about current availability rather than relying on a photograph of boats or a beach from another time of year. Weather and local arrangements can affect what is offered. You can still enjoy a visit centred on walking and the landscape even when a particular activity is not operating.

For photographs, consider both a wide view across the water and a quieter detail at the edge. Keep to appropriate public areas, and be considerate of people using the lake for recreation.

Choose the right kind of outing

Turtle Lake may suit a day when you want a break from museums and historic streets. It can also be a useful contrast after several urban walks. Leave enough room in the schedule to pause, rather than treating the journey to the hillside as something to complete as quickly as possible.

If you plan to combine the lake with Vake Park or another nearby attraction, discuss the route with reception. Hillside destinations require attention to gradients and access points, especially for families or guests with mobility concerns. A journey by road or another available transport option may be more comfortable than an ambitious walk. Confirm current services before setting out.

What to prepare

The hotel's supplied information places the lake approximately five kilometres away. This is not a measured walking or driving route, and it should not be used as a promise of a short journey. The actual approach and change in elevation matter more than the straight distance.

Take clothing suited to the weather, comfortable shoes and water for time outdoors. Conditions can feel cooler or more exposed than in sheltered city streets. If swimming or an organised activity is part of your plan, verify the current arrangements and suitability locally; this guide does not confirm those conditions.

Call New Tamarisi Hotel to enquire about a visit, transport or a guided outing that includes Turtle Lake. Let us know your preferred pace and the interests of your group. We can discuss what is available and what it costs, and help you choose a sensible combination of stops. A tour or transfer is arranged only after the details have been agreed and confirmed.
